Is the file on a local Windows desktop? Is it on a network drive? What is your network and desktop operating system?

Some network operating systems cannot pass login credentials to Access (NetWare most notably) so you will not be able to log in unless you move the file to a Windows only workstation and make sure the username and password on the workstation match the Access file.

I always code my own security since Access security is very funky. It is not the most robust, but works fine for most environments (not sophisticated users). Also, consider a SQL back end if security is an issue.

Hi,

so firstly the file is on the local Windows in DocumentandSetting/user/Microsoft/Access
But the computer is connected to a network. The running system is Windows XP.
Did I understand it right that the User you set up in Access has to correspond with the user of the windows workstation?

How can I set up my security the easiest way? I just need one restricted version for Users with no rights besides reading. I already tried a Autoexe macro but that is kind of insecure.
