Task: When form opens need to check for records in file A that are not in file B, append new ones to file B. Then count for certain criteria and display the count on the form.

The coding works, but! ...

Placed the code into the Form_Open event and discovered the task executes before the form is displayed.

In what event (or technique) can I place the code so that the form displays and then the task executes?

Welcome to P2P, Ed. Pardon my ignorance, but why would it matter when it happens? Don't you want the update to happen regardless? So I would imagine happening before the form displays is desirable.
