Default need help totaling a table

Hi I have the following table. It has many years of data in it. But here is the first few records.

Rec No Race Date Track Code Race No Pole Position Driver Code Trainer Code
2 1/1/2002 F 1 2 31 4433
3 1/1/2002 F 1 3 498 3709
4 1/1/2002 F 1 5 794 674
5 1/1/2002 F 1 6 292 2858
6 1/1/2002 F 1 7 3489 1020
7 1/1/2002 F 1 8 1833 445
8 1/1/2002 F 2 1 1195 3667
9 1/1/2002 F 2 2 4580 4580
10 1/1/2002 F 2 3 700 580

race no and pole position can be ignored. I need to display the information in this format

member jan feb mar apr ..... dec total
year 2002 700
starts 100 150 200 50 ...... 80 1042
points 45 70 90 20 35 201

To figure starts you just add up all the dates in that month.
For points you count each unique day and track once.
so that if you raced at track 1 3 times in 1 day and twice at track 2 you would have 5 starts but only 2 points.

I am thinking I will need to do this in VBA but if it is possible to simply the coding by using a query I would like to do that
any help would be appreciated.
Michael
