Default report with growing sub-report

I have a report that contains a continuous subreport. The property of the subreport is set as 'yes' for can grow...but is it possible to specify a limit on growth? I do not want a big empty space if there isn't any information there either (hince why I just don't set the size of the subreport).

Any thoughts/suggestions?

Do setting the subreport's control and the main report's detail section (that contains that subreport) properties to CAN SHRINK = YES help?

No, unfortunatly it will not shrink that section even though the can shrink setting is 'Yes'.
BTW...the subreport is the only item in the footer of a grouping on the report. Would that matter?

If the subrepor is the only thing in there, it's odd that the section won't shrink. Nothing is forcing it to stay grown.

Are the sections inside the subreport itself set to CAN SHRINK = Yes as well?

Yes, the CAN SHRINK & CAN GROW properties are set to 'Yes' in both the subreport and report.

If you put the sub report in and then make the section and the subreport as Can Grow, you can basically make the sub report itself in Design View just a minimal object just big enough to be able to be seen on the report's design view. It doesn't have to be big enough to see the controls or anything, in fact here's a screenshot of how I set up a report:
