Default info from one field to another automatically

Hi, wonder if anyone can help, or even if what I need is possible.
What I would like to do it automatically populate a field with info from another field, but then add some other text.

(ie)

Field 1 = 8
Field 2 = http://8.asp

So the entry of "8" is the common thread, but the http://?.asp is the added text.

Is this possible, or have I lost the plot. Any help, greatly received.

Many thanks

Hello,

What exactly do you want to see for the link? Is the above post the answer to your problem?

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the info. Now feel free to slap me, but where do I need to put this information within the database?

Cheers

You can create the concatenated field on the front end or in a query in the database.

Hi Brian,

I'm not sure if this is the answer. I don't exactly need it for a link. Basically what I need is the ability to take an entry in one field, add it to another field and then wrap the same generic text around it automatically.

ID = 8 8.doc
ID = 9 9.doc etc etc.

And then I need to know where to put whatever code or expression within my database. Ideally I'd like it to show within the table rather than a form. There has to be a way as it sounds so simple.

Hopefully you can help

Cheers

Steve

Cannot do that directly only using a table. If you don't want to use a form then you could run an update query to fill in the combined data.

Does this combined value really need to be saved in a table? Why not generate the results when/where you need it vs. storage. Also, since it is a calculated value, unless you want editing to a default, you would want this field protected/ReadOnly.

Not generally a good practice to provide access and updates directly in the tables, would encourage using a form/query/macro/function/procedure/subroutine/frontend or some other tool to isolate from direct manipulation.
