Hi,

Is it possible to get Access 2000 to perform tasks after you shut it down. For example : running queries or compacting the database.

Any help greatly appreciated

Do you mean is it possible to access an Access database if it isn't open in a running instance of the Access application? If so, yes.

Don't think so,

Say for example that some one has being keying in data. They finish, it saves. Then as they close the database down, before it completly closes, the database runs a couple of set queries that loads it to an excel doc, or up to the ftp server or runs the compact facility before access dissappears from the screen.

Can this still be done ????

In any database when any transaction is going it allocate a flag to that record if it successfully complete then it wil be deleted other wise it delete uncomplete transaction

Oh, I see.

Don't know about the queries, but I've seen a VBScript that can be called by your application as it closes to do the compact.

Google for:

CompactDB.vbs

and the function used to call it:

fHandleFile

Should probably also mention, if you aren't aware, that with A2K forward, 'Compact on Close' is a GUI property that can be set at Tools -> Options -> General Tab -> Compact on Close checkbox.
