Default VBA Editor problem

I thought I would ask a question about the VBA editor in here coz I'm sure I am not the only one with this problem.

I still like to use AC 2000 to develop applications. It seems that the VBA editor wants to evaluate a line of code as I type it, before I'm done with it. The problem is that it becomes red saying that there is an error or it adds a closing double quotation marks for me as I type a string and while I am not done typing it!

It is also very frustrating when I am looking for an option in an AutoComplete list because it inserts the wrong parameter and the list closes without warning.

Any idea why the editor does that please?

Daniel

The only time that it should give you a red warning is if you have started to type a line of code, and then move the cursor to another line (like if you are copying and pasting.) It is supposed to do this. Just click Okay and move on.

As to the autocomplete, you need to highlight a value and then hit enter or space. I have never heard of it inserting a value you didn't want unless you are selecting it.

Thanks for your input mmcdonal but as you can definitively read I am referring here to a ... problem. Maybe you never heard of it but that doesn't help me to read you saying that does it?

What I am saying is that very often (say every 2 or 3 minutes) as I type my code Access attempts to evaluate the line although I am not done with it. So, of course, I am NOT changing line. I become red just like that...suddenly...pouf!!! If I happen to type a string of text, the closing double quotation mark appears as suddenly...pow!

Since it does that by itself, it can also happens when I attempt to select from a list of methods or properties. The one that happens to be highlighted is used and the list closes.

I cannot believe that I'm the only one that this happens. Please if this never happens to you, don't mention it because it is very discouraging to read a post just saying that the problem discussed never happened to you.

Thanks

Daniel

It sounds like you've got code running in the background whilst you're editing - do you have a form open, with a timer event maybe?

When that code runs the VBE, if open, moves the cursor to the running code, autocompleting strings, making selections and redmarking code before it goes

Brilliant Braxis!!!

Yes I do have a form with a Timer event that occurs every 30 secs updating a clock in the title bar. I disabled the Event and the code evaluating has stopped! Now that I think of it the behaviour occured about every 30 seconds.

I have never, for a minute, thought that this running code would make my life miserable!

Thank you so much for your input. Indeed brilliant! Won't happen again, that's for sure!!
