Default auto generate an number

hi,
I am creating a system by using A2k. I want to assign a document number (sample : A001) to each record that has been added. Is there any way to auto generate a document number in access? which means i do not want the user to key in, the document number will be generated when / after the add button is pressed.

thanks

Rogers Access Library --- Excellent compendium of Access 2000 routines from Roger Carlson. Here >>> http://www.rogersaccesslibrary.com/TableOfContents3.asp

Roger provides a particular example, http://www.rogersaccesslibrary.com/d...berProblem.mdb
if you are going to have multiple users of your database, there is one issue you should be aware of. And that is it is possible that two users could create the same number at the same time. One of Rogers' samples shows a method of handling this problem.
