Default Ms Access in Linux


 Dear friends ,

        I am going to connect My Database in Server my friend gave me an idea to convert an personal computer into linux server and install an server software and use as server..

  My doubt when Iam converting the the PC into Server weather i have to increase the Memory capacity (Total - 8 Users Only ) My PC Hard Disk Capacity is 80GB and now free Space is 68GB .. Is this space is enough for conversion .. Pls give me an idea for conversion my friend know linux but he didn't made any conversion yet.. I want to know which software is good for me to install give me some specifications..

Hi,

I'm not sure exactly what you are trying to do...

If you are wanting to convert your server and then use it to run an Access based database, it will probably not work. Linux and Microsoft products typically not compatible. The only possibility would be to set up the server as a file server and then store the database on it, but access it through a Microsoft Client. If that is the question, you may have more success with Linux forum.

If what you are trying to achieve is a robust database server, that you can right client/server applications for, I would suggest looking at MySQL or PostgreSQL, which typically come included with the Linux kernel. That is probably the topic for a different forum as well.
