I have a report with several thousand records. I want to select 50 records from the report is there any easy way to select these records rather than doing a query

What do you mean when you say "select 50 records?" Does that mean you want the top 50, some 50 that you parameterize? etc?

The way to do this is to use a form and then select parameters from controls on the form, and then open the report. You can't select anything once the report is open.

You can set up a form, and give it the controls you need to get the parameters for your report. Then add a button to open the report after taking and passing the parameters to the underlying query. You can either pass them using SQL text, or give the query criteria that look for values in your controls.

But you say the parameters are random? You have several thousand records and you want to get a random 50? Is that right?
