Default Linking via Actual Address

If you map a network drive using Windows Explorer, e.g.

    \\Server\Share\Folder

becomes, say

    F:\Folder

so that F: = \\Server\Share, then Access will allow you to link to any tables on F:. The problem is that our IT dept. was not consistent with the mapping of \\Server\Share. For our central office, it's P:. For the district offices all over the state, it's J:.

What is an easy / easier way to link to tables in Access by specifying the actual address, i.e. \\Server\Share, rather than using the Linked Table Manager which only seems to work with mapped aliases, e.g. P:, J:?

I'm using Access XP (2002). Thanks in advance.

I received this answer in a couple of other forums I belong to.

When calling the Linked Table Manager, instead of choosing from the folders that show up first in the browse feature, choose "My Network Places" in the "Look In:" column on the left. That will list network drives by Universal Naming Convention (UNC) instead of their mapped aliases.

You can also just type the path into the text box.
