Default Subdatasheet problem

I have just converted a 2000 db to 2003 and the subdatasheet does not work as it did in 2000. All the tables are on SQL SERVER 2000.
In 2000 the Subdatasheet Name is set to [Auto] and it works fine.
In 2003 the Subdatasheet Name is still set to [Auto] but the + does not display. If I explicitlly set the subtable the Link Child and Master filds are displayed correctlly. When I return to datasheet view the + is there and displays the subdatasheet correctlly. However if I exit the table and then reopen it I have to start all over again.
Am I missing something in my installation of Access 2003?

IanB
