Default Report Design

Hi all,

Good day. I have reports, queries, forms, macros in my local mdb and the data is sitting in my server. The issue is everytime I modify my report (any report, even with a very small adjustment), it takes a very long time to save. I thought it can be due to my old PC. I tried with a new one, and is the same.

What can cause this?

Thanks,
Maha

Are you regularly compacting your database?

Hmmm... well, first reports are meant to be passive, not active. That means except for changing the design of it now and then, you should just be opening and closing reports, not modifying them. The modification of data that goes into the report happens at the form. Then you merely open the report from that form... that's it. Other than regular and calculated fields, the report should not be doing anything; that is, you should not be interacting with it.

So are you saying every time you merely open a report a takes a long time to open? Do you have many calculated fields in your report? Your network connection to the server back end could be just plain slow. That would make data retrieval very slow. I had that problem in the past and it has disappeared with upgrades to my computer and operating system.
