Default Odd Access and SharePoint List Error

I have a list in SharePoint for People and this list has a manager field pointing to an id in the same table / list. When this list is self join People.Manager = Manager.id. People and Manager are pointing to the same table. This works fine when there are other tables involved, but when a query is ran just by it's self, it causes strange results. For example the same record is replicated over and over 30,000 + times on a table that has 50 records. Is there a bug with using linked lists as tables? Access 2007 and MOSS 2007
