Default event

Hi,
I am beginner in the art.
My problem: I want to do some control on the "contence" of a form before leaving it for a next input (eg I want to check if the country is filled-out). My problem is on what event (on close, on lost focus....?????) I can fire my control-tour before leaving the record. Making the "country" a required item is not always the option.
Thank for any help.

Marc
