Is there a way of taking a list of names and translating them. For example if a list of several hundred names has price data against them but the names need changing and the price data associated with the original name stays with the new one.

Example: Name AAA has 5 fields of price information but needs translating into symbol AA2. The translation list would be the same each day but the price data changes.

I think we need more information about the structure of the tables involved and what the translation rules are, do you use a lookup to map old names to new or is there a rule, for example AAA => AA2 might be replace the last character with the digit 2.

I receive a daily csv file that lists prices for each name but my database has different names so the prices need to be put against my names. The names on each list do not chnage often so the translation is more or less the same each day. For example:

incoming name is "F" but my Access database calls this "2S" and incoming name "SW" is called "8CO" (all without the quote marks)

I thought maybe I have to have two tables, one from the incoming file and one for my names and then link them in some way. I'm not a programmer but have used Acces for many years.

Well you'd normally have a mapping table, tblMapper:
MapId Autonumber
SourceName Text
DestinationName Text

and then use that to relate the data.
