Default Thick Client Database connection

Hi , i have a user control for ex login control. I am embedding this in a browser( thick client) in button click on the login, it should connect the remote databse, i have given the remote database server, when using the control in windows forms application it is working fine and the same is not working in thick client app. Can any one please clarify me how to connect to database in thick client scenario
