Default newbie help

I am ADO .NET newbie.
I have a datareader that retrieves records from SQL server.
when i do this I get errors:
valStr = (string)sqlReader.GetSqlString(4);
valStr = (string)sqlReader.GetDecimal(4);

What can be done?

valStr = (string)sqlReader.GetString(4);
