Default JSON and html form

I want to know if anyone knows of an existing JSON library function that can take an html form object (document.forms[0]) and convert it to a JSON string. I know there are existing functions that take a javascript object and convert it to a string, but it did not work for the form object.
I want to then post this string to my server using AJAX.
Any help or direction will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
