You can tinker with and copy and modify some simple Ajax with the skills you've got. The right book to give that a try with is Beginning Ajax:

But really, Ajax is tricky. Done poorly, it can lead to bad consequences. I'd really encourage you to get good with JavaScript, especially debugging, before you really try Ajax. Plus, for most of your more interesting Ajax, you are going to need to be good with a server-side language too, ASP.NET in your case.
There's so much you can do with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and ASP.NET if you get good at them. Don't rush into Ajax before you have too.
