Default Can't start my app in tomcat

Hi,

I am really desparate and before coming here I tried to go through the manuals thorougly.

I have installed Tomcat 5.5 as a windows service. I have created system variable of CATALINA_HOME = "C:\Tomcat"

I have created a simple app with a simple JSP page (/webapps/mytest/)

I have created a web.xml file in /mytest/WEB-INF/ folder (using the default values)

I have even created a context.xml in the mytest/META-INF/ folder (again using default values)

But the problem remains. Although I can run the /jsp-examples and serlvets-examples/ given appilcations, I can't run mine.

I even tried to stop-start the tomcat service many times (using the Tomcat5w.exe file)

I also have the same problems with /admin and /manager apps (I have created user with manager role in tomcat-users.xml)

What am I doing wrong. Please help!

OK, I have done one step further...

I have managed to start the manager...

When I press "start" to start my test application I get this message:

"FAIL - Application at context path /mytest could not be started"

Any ideas?

just cross check whether the web.xml is valid according to the dtd. I suspect it might not be valid.
If your sample web application is having only jsp's than you need not include it. Just use anytool to create the web.xml file. Cross check it's well-formedness and valid ness. I think you need not include the context.xml file when you already placed the folder in web-apps. Still any problem just ping me any time on kadimijagan@hotmail.com.

thank you very much. This I hadn't thought. Instead, I installed tomcat 6 and it worked!

So, I guess the problem might have been on the installation itself, or the tomcat version :)
