insert and select from lobs

Dear All,
I need your help in exploring how to select ,update and insert data/file into lobs and retrieve it from it.My objective is to save text of may be (5000 char long ) into oracle database 8.1.7.4. I guess only option is lobs,but I am struggling to insert into it and how to take data from this type of table.Please write simple code of insert ,select and update data from lob through asp.Your help in this regard will be highly appreciated.
