Default ASP/ASP.NET Reference books

I am going to learn ASP in a few days, and I wanted to ask this.
1)What is the difference between ASP and ASP.Net?

2) Also, Can somebody recommend any good books on both ASP and ASP.NET for beginners like me?

3)Which is better, ASP or ASP.NET?

I have a fairly good knowledge of VBScript, Javascript and HTML.
