Default VBScript access of datagrid text

Hi,

is it possible to write a VBscript/JavaScript function
in a webpage so that when executed by the client-side,it
can pick up text from a specified datagrid column on
the webpage? Can client-side functions retrieve text
from server-side databound controls ?

Cheers.

Hello,

I don't know if that is possible. What you have to understand is that the data grid is a table made up of many rows and columns. If the cell (td tag) is created with an ID, you can access it, most likely but at the cell level, and not at the column level.

But I will level with you that I've never tried it.

Brian's answer is along the right lines. If the table cell has an ID on it, you can access it. Then you could use the client DOM to get the innerHTML of the control. This would yield you the "data". The trick is that you need to set the <td> id thru the code-behind in the datagrid events (OnItemCreated/OnItemDataBound). It's not really strait forward, but certainly can be done.
