I have this problem suddenly and I have reinstalled ASP.NET, check the version being used in IIS and checked to see if my ASP_NET user account was locked out - it wasn't.

I'm completely lost.

Ok - just deleted the ASP_NET user account, reinstalled ASP 2.0 and it worked great!

I may not able to tell you the different fixes. But I corrected the problem by copying the config files from working machine to my PC.

If you have friends have VS 2003 working machine, get the files from (C:\WINNT\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\CONFIG ) this folder and paste in your PC. Make sure to take backup of CONFIG folder first.

For some runnning aspnet_regiis -i worked, for some restarting IIS worked. For me I had to copy the config files. My company (OS security polocies) restricted to have those CONFIG files setup right during VS2003 installation.

and enjoy
