Default Selecting and uploading several files at once

Well, the title of the post says it all... It seems like there is no way to do multiple select using <input type="file" />. Can this be true?

I really would like to be able select several files at once and then start the upload. Say you would like to upload all pictures from a camera (say 50) then single select will take a while... also in the way suggested on this page...

Can this really be true?

Thanks, Jacob.

...to be continued here since it is probably more appropriate.
