Default ASP.NET on Windows without IIS

Is it possible to run a HTTP server on a Windows machine, e.g. using Apache, without using IIS, which is able to serve ASP.NET pages...!?

I have searched for an answer, however I get all kind of different answers! Some say that I have to install Mono and that there is support for ASP.NET, and some say that it cannot be done! What is the right answer for this!? The Mono site say that it can be done, so does anyone have experiences with this!?

Thanks

Jacob.

From the Mono site:
Quote:
quote:ASP.NET support is divided in two pieces:

Web Forms (Web Applications infrastructure).

Web Services (the SOAP-based rpc system).
Both are functional at this point, and applications like "IBuySpy" run with Mono.

ASP.NET works either embedded into our XSP server test server or the mod_mono Apache module.
If Mono says they can do it, I am inclined to believe them.

The seem to be a relatively serious project, with some impressive records in reverse engineering the .NET Framework.

If I were you, I'd check it out. Don't believe them before you have seen it yourself.....

hehe! Thanks. I agree if they say, they must know!

I saw this as well...
Quote:
quote:It allows apache to serve ASP.NET pages.
However I have no experience with Apache, so I might just as well try it out! The thing is, I downloaded the Mono binary and installed it, but I do not seem to be able to tell if I got the Apache Mono Module as it is named here.

It would be cool if it was actually able to do the trick of serving ASP.NET pages! Have you tried it!? It would be nice to get a possitive response to the use of Mono with ASP.NET, since then I do not throw hours in something meaningless! :)

Thanks again.

Jacob.

No, I haven't actually tried it.

I looked at their ASP.NET pages, and saw they support running ASP.NET pages on Apache and on their own Web server called XSP.

The XSP download does not include executable files, so I am afraid you'll need to compile the Web server yourself. There are some hints in the documentation, but it all does look rather primitive. I guess you'll need to do a lot of investigating yourself, which will take some time.....

I think the same is true for the Apache module; you'll need to download the source, and compile the module yourself.... :-(

Allright, once again thanks for your help. If I decide to go down that road I will post the experiences a get from this! It could be fun to try though, but without Apache experiences I guess it is pretty much uphill!
