Default First time user, 2 quick questions

Hey everyone. I was following the book steps to setup whatever is that I need to start running ASP.NET, and I ran into 2 problems:

1) In Windows Component Wizard, I cannot find the "Script Debugger" option to Install

2)After creating a virtual directory, I was trying to configure the Directory security. The book says to right click on the folder that I just created (BegASPNET), go to Properties and then to go to the "security" tab. the problem is that I don't have that "security" tab!!!

Any help will be most appreciated

Chino

Hi Chino,

If you don't have a security tab, take a look at this FAQ: http://Imar.Spaanjaars.Com/QuickDocID.aspx?QUICKDOC=286

As for the other problem, I don't have the book, so I don't know what gets installed. What are you installing?

Not sure what this has to do with the initial post.....

The FAQ I posted isn't for a Web App; it's just a Windows setting for Windows XP. Often you'll need to enable the security tab to make changes for a Web app, but that's just coincidence. You'll need the Security tab for lots of other applications as well, as it changes the general security settings for NTFS.

Since your problem isn't related to this post (at least I think it isn't) maybe we should continue on your other thread. How about you post the actual error message you get there??

Cheers,

Imar

Hey Imar.
Thanks so much for takin the time to help me out.
My first problem was solve through the link you gave me.

With respect to the installation problem, The book is guiding me step by step to make sure i have IIS installed. So they make me open the add/remove programs and then go to add/remove windows components. The problem is that they are asking me to install a "script debugger" that is supposed to be on the windows component wizard list but I don't have that option. My OS is WinXp Prof. edition and I have the SP1 installed.

Any ideas?
Thanks you again
chino

Hi Chino,

I can't find the Script Debugger option on my XP installation either. Are you sure the book is guiding you through the setup for IIS on Windows XP?

AFAIK, you can also download the script debugger from this location: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

This also makes me suspect that the debugger is no longer a separate component you can install through IIS....

Cheers,

Imar

You should post the question in the book specific forum, if you have not done so already.
