Hi,
Perform a quick check of the followings.

Make Sure IIS is installed and Default web site is running

If you behind any proxy, turned off any proxy settings in Internet Options

I had a similar problem just few days ago. I uninstalled and reinstalled the IIS and it worked fine. You might want to try that.

Give us some more information on your computer set up.

Can you get any ASP.NET pages to run?

No, nor can I get any ASP.NET pages to run. When I try to open the sample projects for the book "Professional C#, 3rd Edition" (ch25 PCSWebApps) with VS.NET 2003, I get the same errors.

These are some infomations about my machine:
OS: WinXP pro sp2
IDE: VS.NET2003 v7.1.3088
.NET Framework: v1.1.4322
IIS: v5.1

Eum..., when I try to open the IIS help on the URL: "http://localhost/iishelp/..." with IE, it returns a similar error: "http/1.1 500 internal server error". Maybe there's something wrong with my IIS.
