YES you can drag and drop the controls over it and set the databinding to the text property.

Or try this one (replace the ItemTemplate)
Code:
        <HeaderTemplate>  List of items  </HeaderTemplate>

         <ItemTemplate>
            First name:     <%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "firstname") %>
            <BR> 
            Last name:     <%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "lastname") %>

         </ItemTemplate>
