Default Session question

Not sure if this is the right forum.

I am using the ASP.NET Website Programming book and installed the software.

I changed the session timeout to 2 minutes and went into the news/view headlines page. I also set trace to true and found even 30 minutes later my 4 session variables were still there.

Why is that?

Thanks,

Tom

After 30 minutes of what? Session will timeout based on inactivity. Session timeout is known as a rolling timeout. It will expire X minutes after the last request.

AFter 30 minutes of not touching the browser.

Here is an example.

At about 12:30pm I opened up the demo project (thePhile) and went set 2 pages to trace. I have the application folder set as Web Sharing (as was in the book).

I then brought up the App and moved to the News view headlines and copied the trace information. I then left for lunch and came back and moved to another page. Same information, same session ID.

Here is the session information from the webConfig file:

    <sessionState
            mode="InProc"
            stateConnectionString="tcpip=127.0.0.1:42424"
            sqlConnectionString="Persist Security Info=False;Data Source=Dino\SQL2K;Initial Catalog=thePhile;User ID=sa;Password=tfstom;"
            cookieless="false"
            timeout="2"

Here is the trace information (note the time).

Why didn't the session time out?

Is there something else set that prevents that from happening?

Thanks,

Tom

Tom,

That looks like cookie data.

Session IDs do funny things sometimes.
