Default Page Inheritance

I need to know if I can create a generic page with sparse controls, functions and layout to use as a basic template for subsequent development.

My idea is to create this template page and have other page instances inherit this template. I've tried a few times, but to no avail. I've got a feeling that this has to be possible. Any ideas?

Hi there,

Peter (planoie on this forum) has created a nice solution, called SkeletonCore. You can read an article about it here: http://www.geekdork.com/SkeletonCore/article.aspx

The article also provides a link to download the necessary files.

Alternatively, if you have nothing to do during the holidays, check out this thread on ASP.NET. It's a really really long thread, but with a priceless discussion about templating in ASP.NET.

Another alternative, for if you're really really busy for the next year, wait until ASP.NET 2.0 is out. Templating (called Master Pages) is a new feature. Really easy to use. Unfortunately, I think it will take another year or so before this is really useful.

Cheers,

Imar

Thanks Imar-

I have also heard about the "Master Pages" slated for the next iteration of .NET, I am anxiously awaiting them.

I appreciate your assistance. Have a happy holiday if you have one coming up.

Hi Colonel,

If you can't control your anxiety, take a look here:

Yeah, I have a holiday coming up. Really looking forward to it....

You have a happy holiday as well.
