If this is your way of doing business, I don't think you're going to make many friends around here. I spent quite a lot of time trying to help you and trying to understand your problem, so I feel sort of entitled to get an answer.....

If everyone acted like you, with replies like the one above, this forum will be empty pretty soon. I don't want to waste my time on people that just want to take, and refuse to give. The idea about an online community like P2P is about sharing, not consuming knowledge.

If you're not willing to share your knowledge and experience, I don't think there is a place for you in a community like this.

Hi, all,

I've just found your exchanges about Session.Timeout yesterday, and it has been refreshing to me. I love it.

Just to clarify a bit with my own situdation here. If user comes to one page and stay there beyond the time out limit (say 20 minutes), and I want them to continue to stay on this same page (I want to maintain whatever is stored in session variables), then I should set the <meta> tag to refresh the page every 1201 seconds, right? or should I actually set it to refresh 1 second BEFORE the actual timeout limit?

Thanks.

SEt the refresh BEFORE the timeout limit. However if it's a form of some type, when you refresh they will loose the data they are entering.

Hello rweide,

when your user stays there beyond the time out limit then your session will be lost you cant retrieve the session again
but when you set set the <meta> tag to refresh the page every 1201 seconds,it cause to appear another new session(you can initialize it in Session_start event)
so if you want to maintain your session you should exactly go on the way yourself mentioned

Thanks for the quick answer.

Refresh BEFORE the timeout limit, will indeed keep whatever are in my Session variables, correct? Since the session is not over.

On the other hand, refreshing AFTER the time out limit and load a new page, simply give me an option to display a nice instructive message to user. And user can select and refresh the main page to start a new session. Right?

If you don't want to do the job, whatever that means, why did you post in the first place. For the record, I don't make it a habit of laughing at people, but when you tell them the same thing 3 or 4 times and they just argue with you about it, what can you do?
