Default Storing a DataSet

Hi

I am developing a dashboard style of application which pulls down an intial dataset of potentially several thousand records ant hen lets the user refine the data using various functions.

Rather than making several trips to the database each time they want to refine the data I wondered whether it made sense fo the user to user a stored dataset.... does this sound right?

.. If so what would be the best method for storing a dataset of this size which is specific to the user's session?

My main area of concern is performance.

Many thanks

Rit
