Hi,
When i start 'default.aspx' from END of chapter1, i get the following error (see below).
I configured the directory /inetpub/wwwroot/aspnet as an Application in IIS and the directory security is set to "anonymous access". Even when i uncheck that option, i get the error.

Hi there,

Does the virtual folder "aspnet" contain the web.config file directly, or do you have another subfolder inside aspnet, like END?

In the latter case, you need to make the END folder a virtual folder.

thanks for replying.

Yes, i have a lot of subdirectories in the directory 'aspnet' defined as iis-application. Each subdir. contains a file "web.config". Can i just remove them and keep only the web.config in the 'aspnet' directory' instead or making for each subdir a application?

You could, but that would make it problematic for each website to have its own custom settings.

Probably a better approach is to use the built-in web server which maps the current project's root to the web server automatically, eliminating the problem automatically.

Once you go live, you make the project's root the IIS root, so you won't run into a problem there....
