Default Chnage text of a buttonfield

I am using ASP. net with C#

I have a buttonfield named Update within a GridView. I am wondering how to change the text of the buttonfield when it is clicked? I have a Update_onclick event, but cannot seem to change it as examples I have found deal with button.

Not sure how difficult this is. Any help from anyone would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
