Default Handles clause requires a WithEvents on BUTTON?!?!

I converted a 1.1 web project to 2.0. Now when I try to add an everyday, ordinary, run-of-the-mill button to the form, I get this error. Why should it think a button would not have a WithEvents and what the &^%$# do I have to do to get it to do this for me? Closing the project/VS doesn't seem to help.

Default

The problem appears to be related to the use of "Partial Public Class" which the conversion process seemed to think the project needed. This project is now such a mess I think I shall have to start over again just to get it to add a lousy button to the page. What a PITA!
