I wish to set the selection of the dropdownlist at the runtime. I searched for this in the help of VS2005 and found the following code:

   Dim li As ListItem = DropDownList1.Items.FindByText(TextBox1.Text)
        If Not li Is Nothing Then
            li.Selected = True
        End If

But when I use this code it is giving error cannot select multiple Items in a dropdownlist. whereas all the items in the dropdownlist are unique. Can somenody help with this code or suggest new code for the setting selection in dropdownlist control at runtime.

You have duplicate text in the dropdown, and dropdowns can only have 1 item selected at a time.

Alternatively, try setting the .SelectedIndex index.

Hi,

Before setting selected property of ListItem to true, try to Clear Selection of dropdownlist.

Try this in If clause DropDownList1.ClearSelection()
