Default String Formatting

Hi Friends,

  I would like to know which function i have to use for remocing caharacters of string starting from a particular position.eg:
I Have a string. "Always".i want to display it in a text box as "Away".what i have to do for that?

I there.. the string object has a replace method, also a substring method to do that kind of thing...
