Default Adding a button to an asp page

I have a web page call contact.aspx. I use the toolbox and drop a buuton onto the page. Now, when I click the button it opens the contact.aspx page (like I would write inline code) and not a contact.aspx.vb page (for writing code behind, which I want). What I'm doing wrong? Is there a setting somewhere?

Have you told your applcation to use code behind files? When creating your application there was a check box that said "Use code behind files" did you check that box?
