If you create a site, VWD also creates a .sln file under My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Projects
Once you delete the .sln file, you can click the item on the Start Page and VS then offers to delete the entry.
In addition, you may be able to remove them using Tools | Import / Export settings. Never tried that though....
Personally, I don't mind these entries that much. Pretty soon the real projects you are working on will be at the top of the list...
