Default GridView - Boundfield - DataFormatString

My GridView shows time field as 21:12:15 (military time). I need to show time as AM/PM and I have tried setting the DataFormatstring = {0:t} and also tried {0:T}. My grid still displays military time. The field is defined as a "time" in the data base. Any ideas? Thank you.
