Default Setting content placeholder width

Hi Folks,

I'm very new to asp.net and I have created my master page. The problem is that when i put a control into my content placeholder on a normal page it overlaps with my navigation...

Eg:

Do i set its width in CSS? If so how?

I have looked all over the net for a resolution
