Default Form view control, Authorized edit only

I have used a form view control rather than a grid view to display data, mostly because I can customize it easily. I want to have the edit link enabled only for authorized users..so basically every one can view but only certain users should be allowed to edit or update the data, can someone please help me on how to do this?
thanks in advance
