Default Serialization and DeSerialization

Hello All,
I am very much confused in the question 'Where Serialization is used in .net(other than remoting and webservices)?' Could anyone help me to come out of the confusion. It will be pleasure if anyone can forward any code too.

My second question is 'What is the interal mechanism of boxing in .net?'
