Default save/export gridview direct to IIS?

Hi all.
whilst there are several posts already showing how to export gridviews to excel and prompt the user to save the file to their file system, i have been trying to do the following with no success.
I would like to export or save a gridview back to the server in the existing webpage directory, automatically, without any prompts and overwrite an existing copy of a previous exported file if necessary.

Can anyone suggest a method for doing this please?
i'm not asking for the code to be written for me as i would like to try for myself first, but some or any idea of what methods to use would be handy as having trawled the web for days i have got nowhere.
If anyone already has a link or blog pointing out how it can be done then please let me know.
Thanks for your time.

Regards
'Viper.
