Employer ID

hi....i am having problem in adding employer_ID...
in employer database,the id format is EM000001.....how am i going to retrieve the last id which is EM000002 which is only the number(000002) and increase by 1(when i register a new employer) and concatenate with EM and become(EM000003)? Any idea....
