Default Asp file

I am running Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008. I right click on a ASP file in my web site application and select view in Browser. When the Browser opens My Development Web Server displays an error message This type of page is not served. Description: The type of page you have requested is not served because it has been explicitly forbidden. The extension '.asp' may be incorrect. I was wondering does anyone know what is going on? Thanks for any assistance.

The error message says it all: the built-in web server is not designed to run classic ASP pages. It only serves .NET content.

You need to use IIS if you want to run classic ASP pages locally.

Cheers,

Imar

You need to install it through the Windows Programs and Features section of the Control Panel. Then you can configure a site in IIS, and tell Visual Studiio to use it. My book Beginning ASP.NET 3.5 in C# and VB has a chapter devoted to deployment including using IIS. Additionally, you can learn a lot about IIS here: www.iis.net

Cheers,

Imar
