Unhappy problems creating a master page in ASP 3.5

The instructor I have wants me to recreate the masterpage on page 41 of the wrox textbook because I kept getting errors about it. Although my original materpage has been deleted when I try to make a new Masterpage.master or Masterpage1.master it will not let it be created. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get it to work?
