MVC might be a little more flexible for you long term, though if you're new to programming, webforms would be easier to understand right now. If you're starting out, I'd get Professional ASP.NET 4 : in C# and VB, by Imar. If you'd like to take a crack at MVC, I'd recommend Professional ASP.NET MVC 2.
